Carla Bruni on Feminism

29 Nov

In the latest issue of Vogue Paris Carla Bruni is quoted as saying that she doesn’t think her generation needs feminism. She says she isn’t “an active feminist” and that she loves family life and doing the same thing every day.  While I too enjoy what a committed relationship brings, family and up to a certain extent, even doing the same thing (more or less) every day, I do think that as women we still have quite a bit of work to do in terms of socio-economic equality. When baby girls in certain parts of the world are considered less than their male counterparts and when here, in the U.S., women earn less than men for the doing the same work, that is a problem. Yet, I think as women  we should not condemn other women for having opinions different from our own.  What do you think? Do you agree with Carla Bruni? What are your thoughts?
