One of my clients is a ballet company, so I am somewhat immersed in the world of ballet, which isn’t a bad thing to be immersed in at all! As a result, I keep tabs on ballet related news and the other day, I came across this and other photos by Kyle Forman, former New York City Ballet corps de ballet dancer, who has turned into a photographer. His photos show various dancers from New York in different architectural settings, which is not the way most photographers photograph them and which makes Forman’s images unique and interesting to look at.

You can see more photos included in a video here, however,  if you’re in Massachusetts, you can see Forman’s exhibit, Bodies/Buildings at Jacob’s Pillow Dance.

Mad World

16 Oct

untitled

I grew up in the 80s and to this day, I still listen to all the music I grew up listening to. Nowadays, I rarely ever buy new music and when I do, it’s typically something that sounds like the music I grew up listening to or that was somehow influenced by the bands and singers I liked growing up. That’s not to say, I don’t listen to anything else, but my favorite music is definitely the sound of the 80s, most specifically the music of bands from the UK from that era. So, when I came across this book the other day, I immediately knew it had to be added to my book collection! It chronicles New Wave music and includes stories from various singers and band members. You can purchase it here. What about you, what is your favorite type of music?

Karl Lagerfeld Exhibition

14 Jan

karl

Karl Lagerfeld:Parallel Contrasts,  will be on view at the Folkwang Museum in Essen, Germany from February 15-May 11. On view will be photographs, drawings, films, product designs and other things he considers his obsessions. If you want to get a greater insight into Karl Lagerfeld and all the things that drive him, I recommend the documentary Lagerfeld Confidential. It’s a very interesting film and gives great insight into one of the world’s most famous fashion designers.

Yves Saint Laurent

7 Jan

les_photos_du_film_yves_saint_laurent____l_h__tel_westin_paris___vend__me_27513778_north_545x.1I’ve been reading The Beautiful Fall: Fashion, Genius and Glorious Excess in 1970s Paris by Alicia Drake. As the title suggests, it is  about Parisian fashion in the 70s but focuses primarily on Yves Saint Laurent and Karl Lagerfeld’s rivalry. It’s been an interesting read, so far. Coincidentally, a film about the life of Yves Saint Laurent is being released tomorrow in France. I hope it makes it overseas soon!

2014!

6 Jan

downtonI hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating the holidays and ringing in the new year! Nicholas and I really enjoyed ours and had a great time celebrating with our family. Now, it’s back to reality but luckily, Downton Abbey is back! As I have mentioned before, I am a huge fan of the series and always get so excited for the new season!

This past Saturday, I went to a viewing screening party put on by PBS and it was great,  I even won a poster! I never win anything at raffles, so it was nice to actually win something. Do you watch Downton Abbey? If so, what would you like to see happen this season? If you don’t watch it, what’s a show you never miss?

Morrissey: Autobiography

4 Oct

morrissey

If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you may already be aware of the fact that I am a big Morrissey fan, a 28-year long fanatic. My love affair with The Smiths and his music began at the tender age of 12 and continues to this day. After many years of him talking about writing his autobiography, it is finally being published, Autobiography, as it’s so aptly titled,  will hit bookstores and Amazon  on October 17, albeit, European bookstores and Amazon UK. There is no deal to publish it here in the U.S. However, I have pre-ordered my 480 page copy and am looking forward to reading it when it arrives. A part of me feels that there may not be anything new that us, fans don’t already know about him and his career, but I simply had to buy it! I hope I am wrong and that I learn more about the man I’ve been listening to for more than half my life!

If you’re a David Bowie fan (like me), live in London, will be visiting this weekend or any time between Saturday and August 11, you should go see the exhibition that will highlight his career at the Victoria and Albert Museum. If you do plan to attend, you better hurry and get your tickets as soon as possible because 48,000 have already been booked!
