Downton Abbey Style

16 Feb

mary.jpgI’ve been watching Downton Abbey since the very first season and am sad to see it end in two weeks. TWO WEEKS!!! As much as I love all the characters and storylines, the one thing that I particularly enjoy seeing is all the clothes. The clothes this season have been particularly gorgeous, especially Lady Mary’s. She looks so modern and chic in every episode. I find myself wanting to wear her outfits every week! You can see some of the clothes worn by her and the other women this season, here. You can also see outfits from last season here.If you watch the series, whose clothes do you most covet?

Happy (Belated) New Year!

1 Feb

cinema paradiso

January has come and gone and it flew by, as did the amount of time since I last posted here. A lot has happened since July but I’ll leave the catching up for another day. Today, I am interested in knowing what your favorite movies are. Yesterday was a rainy and very windy day, and I proclaimed it a “lazy day.” I spent it reading and catching up on DVR recordings, as well as updating my Netflix queue.

Earlier in the day I had come across a list of critics’ choices for the top 250 films of all time and while some of my favorites were included such as The Godfather, Parts I & II, Los Olvidados and Annie Hall there were many movies, I’d never heard of that seemed worth watching. While I love films and have many favorites, my absolute all time favorite is Cinema Paradiso. I’ve seen it more times than I care to admit!

What are some of your favorites?

Art Portraits Taking Selfies

11 Nov

museumofselfies1Have you seen the Museum of Selfies Tumblr? It was started by Danish art director Olivia Muus. She began the blog by taking photos of old painted portraits and placing her smartphone in front of them in the National Gallery in Denmark,  making it appear as though the portraits were taking selfies. Now, she is compiling a collection of photographs from other people and adding them to the blog. The phones really give a whole new perspective to the works.  I definitely think the next time I visit a museum I will do that too, with no flash, of course! You can see more photos and make your own submission here.

Oscar de la Renta

21 Oct

I was saddened to hear the news of the passing of legendary fashion designer Oscar de la Renta. He was so elegant, like his clothes. Whenever I read or saw an interview with him,  I got the sense that he was a true gentleman, in every sense of the word.

Mad World

I grew up in the 80s and to this day, I still listen to all the music I grew up listening to. Nowadays, I rarely ever buy new music and when I do, it’s typically something that sounds like the music I grew up listening to or that was somehow influenced by the bands and singers I liked growing up. That’s not to say, I don’t listen to anything else, but my favorite music is definitely the sound of the 80s, most specifically the music of bands from the UK from that era. So, when I came across this book the other day, I immediately knew it had to be added to my book collection! It chronicles New Wave music and includes stories from various singers and band members. You can purchase it here. What about you, what is your favorite type of music?

Louis Vuitton Punching Bag

15 Oct

louisvuittonDo you ever have those days where everything seems to go every way, except the way you’d like? Whenever I have a bad day,  I go for an extra long walk and do yoga. That usually helps me decompress and to feel relaxed. However, this new punching bag designed by Karl Lagerfeld for Louis Vuitton, makes me want to take up boxing! Its estimated price is $175,000 and there are only 25 being made. Yet, a part of me wonders if I would want to punch something this nice and expensive!

New York Jackie

8 Apr

I love women  whose style is always effortlessly chic and simple. Women like  Paris Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt who are always stylish without trying too hard. However, none probably embody this more than Jackie O. In the new book New York Jackie: Pictures from Her Life in the City you get to see so many great examples of her simple yet always chic style. Whose style do you admire?
