I love women  whose style is always effortlessly chic and simple. Women like  Paris Vogue editor Emmanuelle Alt who are always stylish without trying too hard. However, none probably embody this more than Jackie O. In the new book New York Jackie: Pictures from Her Life in the City you get to see so many great examples of her simple yet always chic style. Whose style do you admire?

Stylish Winter

19 Dec

12bb78937828c1ea34a38397e22e6e27sartorialistI am a big believer that you don’t have to sacrifice style for comfort and warmth in the winter. While California winters are mild, I will be traveling to Denver for a few days next week where it will definitely be cold. I must admit, that I am having a difficult time in determining what I will pack  although, if the truth be known, I am not a light packer and never have been. I plan to only take a carry-on so that alone will place some limitations on me  but I am getting some style inspiration from these photos.  I do know a pair of boots, my recently purchased coat and a hat or two will make the cut! If you live in a place where the temperature drops to frigid lows, how do you stay warm and stylish?

Coats

7 Nov

coat1coat2coat3The weather in Southern California can be a bit tricky, especially in the fall when the temperature is still warm during the day  but cooler in the mornings and evenings. I live a walking distance from the beach, so it gets even cooler here, but never cold enough where  a light jacket or sweater won’t do. Although, I will admit, sometimes the temperature does drop quite a bit. It dawned on me a few days ago that I don’t really own a  coat. However, I also didn’t want to spend too much money because I know I won’t make much use of it, so I started looking for one and found quite a few at Zara! I bought the one in the middle photo but feel like buying the other two as well! Does the temperature get really cold where you live?

Saint Laurent Spring 2014

I grew up in the 80s and as a result I have a soft spot for anything reminiscent of new wave style, which is why I liked so many clothes from the Spring 2014 Saint Laurent collection. It really has a cool 80s look to it and I could see myself mixing and matching many of my own non-Saint Laurent clothes to create similar looks. What decade did you grow up in? Do you find yourself gravitating to style from that time?

Currently on view at Edinburgh’s City Art Centre is a Century of Photography at Conde Nast. The exhibition features photos by Mario Testino, Helmut Newton, David Bailey and others whose images have appeared in Vogue, Glamour and other Conde Nast publications over the last one hundred years. It also includes original prints and pages from the magazines. I’d love to visit Edingburgh and see this exhibition.
