Downton Abbey Style

16 Feb

mary.jpgI’ve been watching Downton Abbey since the very first season and am sad to see it end in two weeks. TWO WEEKS!!! As much as I love all the characters and storylines, the one thing that I particularly enjoy seeing is all the clothes. The clothes this season have been particularly gorgeous, especially Lady Mary’s. She looks so modern and chic in every episode. I find myself wanting to wear her outfits every week! You can see some of the clothes worn by her and the other women this season, here. You can also see outfits from last season here.If you watch the series, whose clothes do you most covet?

Diane von Furstenberg

3 Nov

thewomaniwantedtobeI’ve always liked Diane von Furstenberg, not just her iconic wrap-dresses but the sound advice she offers women.I am looking forward to reading her new book, The Woman I Wanted to Be, where she opens up about her entire life and how she came to create the global brand which bears her name. I am also looking forward to seeing her new reality show House of DVF which premiered last night, and which focuses on the search for the first Diane von Furstenberg brand ambassador. I  was unable to watch it but I recorded it on my DVR and am seeing it tonight. Will you read her book or watch her new show?

downtonI hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating the holidays and ringing in the new year! Nicholas and I really enjoyed ours and had a great time celebrating with our family. Now, it’s back to reality but luckily, Downton Abbey is back! As I have mentioned before, I am a huge fan of the series and always get so excited for the new season!

This past Saturday, I went to a viewing screening party put on by PBS and it was great,  I even won a poster! I never win anything at raffles, so it was nice to actually win something. Do you watch Downton Abbey? If so, what would you like to see happen this season? If you don’t watch it, what’s a show you never miss?

Downton Abbey (Spoiler Alert)

18 Feb

Like a lot of other people who saw last night’s season finale of Downton Abbey, this morning I am still upset about Matthew’s death. I knew that Dan Stevens (the actor who plays Matthew) had not signed on to be part of the fourth season, but I didn’t expect him to be killed off! I was hoping he would’ve been sent overseas  and then maybe he would appear in an episode or two somewhere down the line.  Needless to say, the minute I saw him speeding in the car I knew what would happen next, as much as I didn’t want it to.

Two major character deaths this season make me wonder if Julian Fellowes is trying to tell us something about how he feels about children. Are the deaths of Matthew and Sybil a metaphor for a literal end of life as you know it once children are born? It make me feel like there needs to be a Downton Abbey grief support group in case this trends continues in the fourth season! If you saw last night’s episode, what did you think? Do you think Matthew should’ve been killed off the series?

The Carrie Diaries

14 Jan

I was (and still am) a big fan of Sex and the City and will watch The Carrie Diaries tonight.  The show is based on the novel by Candace Bushnell, by the same title and it tells the story of a teenage Carrie. I will watch it and see what it’s like. Although if the truth be known, I wish there were new episodes of Sex and the City still being made! Will you watch it?

For the last few days I’ve been without a cell phone. The battery began dying a slow death a few days ago and when I took it to get looked at, I was told that the battery needed to be replaced. The friendly T-Mobile salesperson told me that it would be 1-3 days  before I received my new battery, but then I received an email informing me that I would actually receive  it until next Thursday! While that email nearly brought about about an anxiety attack, I calmed down and tried to think that maybe  it would be  nice to be disconnected .

Today, three days later, I must admit, I am enjoying this even more than I thought I would! Would you consider  getting rid of any of your gadgets? Do you ever simply disconnect? I try to on weekends but  unfortunately I am not always successful. I think at this point we’re all simply in too deep in our “technology loop” like the clip of Portlandia shows! But at the same time, if we try, just a little, we may begin to break the cycle…maybe.

Devonton Abbey

8 Jan

If you’ve been reading this blog for the last few months, you know that I am a huge Downton Abbey fan, and like everyone else who is as obsessed as I am with the series, I am so glad it’s finally back on! So, when I saw Agent Gates and the Adventures of Devonton Abbey, a graphic novel spoof on the series, I was intrigued! It seems all of the characters we have come to love and hate are included, albeit with different names. If you’re a fan, will you buy it? I am considering it!
